With the popularity of Spotify and iTunes, it’s curious to see how a platform like Beatport stays afloat. However, the music marketplace has created a niche in the dance music industry and has a veritable history in the genre, so we don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
In fact, the site still does a fair amount of business and warrants its own “Top of 2017” lists, thanks to site Beatstats, which collects information from Beatport for analysis. Among the lists are Top 10s for the usual artists, tracks, and labels; but one of Beatport’s selling points is its breakdown by genres, so of course there’s a Top 10 for that, as well.
Because of Beatport’s interesting place in dance music, some of these results come as rather surprising. For instance, the #1 track is Camelphat’s “Cola.” Camelphat is also the #1 artist across genres.
