The FCC today formally announced its intentions to repeal rules put in place by the Obama administration and put an end to Net Neutrality. This would effectively create a paid-tier system on the internet where ISPs could charge you for access to certain sites, or faster speeds for others. Putting the internet in the hands of privatized entities puts freedom of speech and small businesses in jeopardy.
Net Neutrality is the principle that internet service providers and governments regulating most of the Internet must treat all data on the internet the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication.
The FCC has intentionally released this news as families gear up for the Thanksgiving holiday so that as many people are as distracted as possible and will not rally against their efforts. Let’s prove them wrong.
Support net neutrality by visiting Battle for the Net or Save the Internet, or by contacting the members of the FCC and telling them you want a free internet.
Do you want your ISP to control what websites you can access? No? Well, we don’t either…
