Magic Mushrooms Take Critical Step Towards Legalization in California

Magic mushrooms could soon be legal — the psychedelic drug just got a green light to move forward in California!

If approved these measures would “decriminalize use, possession, sale, transport, or cultivation of psilocybin (a hallucinogenic compound) by persons at least 21 years of age,” according to the secretary of state’s summary. The drug has been known to treat post-traumatic disorder (PTSD) in patients, but that’s not commonly known.

One of Marina’s mayor candidates, Kevin P. Saunders co-authorized the proposed state initiative, and he’s all for it. In order to make it to the ballot, Saunders and supporters will have to turn in 365,880 valid voter signatures by April 30th. It’s a tall order for a grassroots effort, but Saunders doesn’t seem to be deterred.

“We’re very excited,” he said. “We see this as a civil rights issue.”

Even with the supporters, organizers of the California Psilocybin Legalization Initiative admit they don’t have the potential $3 million it would take to implement the system to support magic mushrooms.

“Everything except actual money is coming our way,” Saunders continued. “We’re one big donation away from being able to do this.”
