Diplo Gets Real On DJs Being Poseurs, What Would Diplo Do, And Jack Ü’s Most Famous Hit

The Rolling Stone interview that got Diplo into trouble with Taylor Swift fans has made its way onto the web… His quote, which will probably never be forgotten by Swifties, pertained to how streaming and young consumers determine today’s hits:

They want to listen to [Post Malone’s] “Rockstar” and [Cardi B’s] “Bodak Yellow” – they don’t want to listen to, like, [Taylor Swift’s] “Look What You Made Me Do.” That music doesn’t relate to them at all. I don’t think it ever did.

While the media jumped all over that particular comment, there’s much more we can learn about Diplo from the recent interview with Rolling Stone. If you want the shorted version, we have your answers below. Check out the full interview here for Diplo’s full perspective on DJs being poseurs, his Vice series What Would Diplo Do?, him and Skrillex, aka Jack Ü‘s most famous hit (and more)!

Diplo Gets Real with Rolling Stone

On feeling “ripped off” when the sound of “Where R Ü Now” became mainstream…

You can’t be mad – you just kind of gotta go with the flow.

On being compared to Drake…

He sees trends, and he gets ahead of them. I think I’m the same way.

On the current rap scene…

Rap music is a very youthful scene right now. It’s not made for people like me: white men, 30-plus years old.

On James Van Der Beek playing his fictional self in What Would Diplo Do?

It hurt to watch it the first time.

On the famous WWDD quote: “Are we just poseurs pushing buttons?”

I know I’m a poseur pushing buttons onstage!

On his project with Mark Ronson…

We just want to go on tour and do a little DJ’ing together.

On ditching DJing for producing…

If I do a show, I get paid this month.

On toning down his Twitter…

Sarcasm doesn’t travel well over the Internet.
