There are those of us who’d like to forget that Paris Hilton released a self-titled album Paris back in 2006. Long before the boom of mainstream EDM, Hilton had already tapped into the sound of the future – and as much as you might hate her trying to cash in on dance music, some credit has to be given to her for that.
That being said, I’m not sure anyone is ready for her sophomore album. In an interview with TIME, Hilton said she’s working on a “whole new sound,” and is working to present a wide fusion of genres including deep house, techno-pop and electro-pop. How techno and pop might combine is anyone’s guess, but she cites Katy Perry, DJ Chuckie, Michael Jackson and Madonna as some of her biggest influences.
Hilton announced a new single this summer, called “Summer Reign,” in conjunction with her new perfume, but aside from a 30-second clip within a promotional video for the fragrance, the single doesn’t exist anywhere. It doesn’t really feel like deep house, techno-pop or electro-pop… instead sticking to the very mainstream sound that most people would expect from her.

Therefore, what can people really expect from her sophomore album? No one really knows, and we’re willing to bet that no true dance music fan wants to find out. But regardless, the album is coming. And hinging on the success of Hilton’s multi-year residency in Ibiza and general business acumen, it could do really well. Or… it might fall completely flat. Only time will tell.
