It’s hard to believe that Marshmello’s debut single on a major label, which popularized his brand and signature sound, was unleashed only a year and a half or so ago.
Back then “Alone” was just the anthem of a lonely, little Marshmello — and now it happens to be Monstercat’s biggest release to date. The single just achieved RIAA Certified Platinum status, which means 1,000,000 units of the groundbreaking track have been sold. “Alone” was also the first music video to hit 600,000,000 views for Monstercat on YouTube.
For many electronic music lovers, this was the first time they heard future bass. For others, this was the first time they heard EDM at all.
The independent Canadian label has found massive success with a variety of releases since Mike Darlington and Ari Paunonen founded the imprint in 2011. Ever since, Monstercat has supported countless talented artists and exposed many sub-genres of EDM along the way.
In 2017, Monstercat was named DJ Mag’s “Best Breakthrough Label,” a true reflection of its accomplishments and role as a tastemaker in electronic music.
Congrats to both Monstercat and Marshmello on this huge win!
