It’s always important at times to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. While streaming on Spotify is definitely king right now, YouTube plays a part nearly as important. The video/streaming giant owned by Google is host exclusively to music videos from these artists, which makes the platform extremely valuable.
As dance music has exploded in the past 3-4 years, a number of music (and lyric) videos have passed the billion-view threshold.
The worldwide 2015 hit “Lean On” by Major Lazer & DJ Snake comes in at #1, followed by the lyric video for “Closer” by The Chainsmokers and Halsey. Calvin Harris comes in at #3, but he is also the most popular artist on the list, commanding three of the top 10 slots, while young upstart Alan Walker has already amassed over a billion views for Faded.
The list is rounded out by Martin Garrix’s breakout hit “Animals” just above the one billion mark, and David Guetta’s collaboration with Nicki Minaj, “Hey Mama.”
