While many artists celebrate their 2017 American Music Awards nominations, there’s one in particular that isn’t totally pleased with the results…
Halsey, nominated twice for her feature on The Chainsmokers‘ record-breaking hit “Closer” took to Twitter to say while she’s honored by the nom, she’s disappointed overall with the lack of female representation in leading categories.
For instance, the coveted title of Artist of the Year holds five strong acts in music — all of which are male. The Chainsmokers, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheran.
Really honored to have received an @AMAs nomination but really disappointed to hear near exclusively male names… such a missed opportunity

so many incredible female artists have released this year. hoping the coming award shows give them the credit that is due to them.

“Closer” by The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey is up for both Collaboration of the Year and Song of the Year Pop/Rock — and it will honestly be pretty shocking if the song doesn’t nab at least one of those.
Despite her dismay, the pop star performed her new hit “Bad At Love” on Good Morning America to hype the awards show as Ciara unveiled the nominees live.
