This morning, many Facebook and Instagram users found themselves unable to access the platforms, or were otherwise faced with excessively long load times. This was not an isolated case, as many users across the US and Europe faced similar issues.
The outages were tracked by online platform Down Detector, and the outages were of course chronicled by users on Twitter, as well. Over 12,000 reports were filed on Down Detector for outages on Facebook, while there were 2,500 reports for outages on Instagram. Instagram is owned by Facebook.
The problems seem to have subsided for the most part, though according to the screenshots below, taken at time of publishing, many areas are still experiencing moderate to severe issues with both platforms.
Facebook said in a statement, “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
