There have been a lot of natural disasters and tragedies over the past couple weeks, almost too many to really cope with. Between Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose and Maria, as well as the shooting in Las Vegas this past weekend, there are thousands of people who could use our help.
For DJ/producer Iris in Los Angeles, the struggle of Puerto Rico is nearest and dearest to her heart, as she has multiple family members in the hurricane-struck country.
“Throwing this benefit show really hits close to home for me because I am Puerto Rican and some of my relatives live in Puerto Rico and have been directly affected by the hurricane. When I realized how much of a crisis the island was in I knew I HAD to do something. So I tweeted I wanted to do a Puerto Rico Benefit Show where artists/promoters/venues/photographers etc in LA came together as one. Now we have Give Hope: A Benefit Show For Puerto Rico. It’s incredible.”
In light of tragedy, it’s incredible how quickly the community can come together thanks to just one person’s vision.
Give Hope is happening next Wednesday, October 11 at UNION in Los Angeles, in partnership with SMOG and Torque Events. RSVP and donate $15 at the door, or don’t, and donate $20. RSVPs are now open here.
Iris herself will be DJ’ing along with a bunch of other special guests that will be dropping by all night long. We’ve gotten a hint at the lineup, and if you thought that the latest charity event from Space Yacht was lit, then you definitely don’t want to miss this, either.
