UPDATE 3:26PM PST | LAPD have confirmed they have no information about the passing of Tom Petty. Initial reports that he was taken off life support remain accurate, however it seems the singer is still clinging to life.
UPDATE: Rolling Stone has confirmed Tom Petty has died at age 66.
Legendary rocker Tom Petty of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers has reportedly passed away after being rushed to the hospital late last night. He was allegedly discovered unconscious after suffering a severe cardiac arrest in his home, TMZ reports.
Paramedics were able to get a pulse at his house before rushing him to the hospital. TMZ reports he had no brain activity and was subsequently taken off of life support.
Most well known for his hit songs “Free Fallin” and “I Won’t Back Down,” Tom Petty had just finished a huge 40th anniversary touch, which last November he said might be his “last big one.” Petty played at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, Sunday night after his Aug. 25 show was postponed.
