The Chainsmokers x Coldplay Hit Sounds Just Like This K-Pop Group’s Allegedly Plagiarized Song

The song “Don’t Wanna Cry” by kpop group Seventeen sounds oddly familiar… Oh right, it sounds just like The Chainsmokers x Coldplay‘s “Something Just Like This.”

The allegations that Seventeen plagiarized the collaboration seem to have proven true, as the similarly produced track has suddenly officially attributed the electronic duo and the pop-rock band responsible for “Something Just Like This.” The Korea Music Copyright Association gives production credits for Seventeen’s “Don’t Wanna Cry” to members Woozi and Bumzu, as before — but now Andrew Taggart of The Chainsmokers and all four members of Coldplay have been added.

In addition, Pledis Entertainment issued an official statement: “We received inquiries about the similarity of some of the melodies between the songs from the two publishing parties. We are asserting that ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’ is an independently created song but we were worried that the artists would suffer a great amount of stress if it came to legal disputes and that their image might adversely be affected regardless of the truth. Because of the listed reasons above, we decided to grant/acknowledge a piece of copyright to them.

In fact, if you check the list of copyright holders to this song, the names of the artists who participated remain the same. We would like to apologize to all the artists and fans who were worried and concerned due to the company’s decision.”

Hm… This really takes “Something Just Like This” to a whole new level. Just listen!
