Steve Aoki Remixes Michael Jackson’s Classic “Thriller” For New Augmented Reality Experience

On the list of articles I thought I wouldn’t be writing today, this is pretty far at the top. Epic/Legacy Recordings and Michael Jackson’s estate have teamed up to release a new album of Jackson’s “spookiest” songs, just in time for October, including “Thriller,” “Ghosts,” and  “Scream.”

The project is expected to release October 27, with a CD and collectible glow-in-the-dark 2LP vinyl release. Along with your purchase of the physical album, called Michael Jackson Scream, which is available to stream today, you will receive an exclusive poster that will launch the first-ever augmented reality (AR) experience designed for a Michael Jackson album.

In addition to the album, a Steve Aoki remix of Jackson’s massive hit “Thriller” is released as a standalone single. This isn’t the first time that Aoki has been tapped for a special remix, having remixed the Ghost In The Shell theme song earlier this year. However, when it comes to Michael Jackson, we have to ask ourselves… was this really necessary? It’s certainly not a bad remix, but “Thriller” is one of those songs that never had to be remixed, and it still doesn’t now.

You can check out Aoki’s remix below.
