UPDATE: Local police have announced that the man involved has died from his injuries.
Burning Man Festival is named as such because of its notable wooden man effigy which is ceremoniously ‘burned’ every Saturday night of the festival. People travel thousands of miles from across the globe to take in the iconic sight in person and enjoy the rest of the festivities. Unfortunately, one such attendee took it a bit too far by running straight into the Burning Man which again, is a giant burning wooden statue 50 feet tall.
Per an official statement from Burning Man, the man was immediately chased by brave emergency personnel who attempted to rescue him as he headed straight into the flames around 10:30 pm local time last night. He was eventually rescued and treated on scene before being transported to an on-site medical facility and then airlifted to a burn treatment center for further evaluation.
Burning Man has since released this statement regarding the incident.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday evening, a male participant at the annual Burning Man event in Northern Nevada broke through a safety perimeter and ran into a fire. Black Rock City fire personnel rescued him from the fire.
The individual was treated on scene, transported to the on-site medical facility and airlifted to a burn treatment center.
We will share more information as it becomes available.
Burning Man Festival was attended by 70,000 attendees this year in its thirty-first annual edition. The eight-day long festival is slated to conclude tomorrow on the 4th.
