I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the biggest fan of techno by any means, but the concept behind Israeli DJ/Producer CTRL SHIFT DEFEAT was interesting enough to give me a second look and lo and behold, a fan I became. The project is part music part sci-fi novel which pushes out a chapter of a book he’s calling The Engagement Room with every single.
His last single “Shaman Balagan” is the second single, or chapter, of the story and it’s a sizzling display of sound design and woozy hypnotic breaks. It’s exactly the kind of record you would hear blaring out of your local after-hours yet so much more sophisticated than just your regular techno record.
