Reading & Leeds Festivals Add Pineapples To Their ‘Prohibited Items’ Lists

Prohibited items include: face masks, balloons, drones, animals… pineapples?

At both Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK this year, a strange item has been added to the official list of prohibited items: pineapples. Due to the presence of the lyric “pineapples are in my head” in the Glass Animals song “Pork Soda,” fans have been known to bring the fruit to festivals.

Joe Seaward, the band’s drummer, has called the decision “fruitist.”

A spokesman from the festival told the BBC that: “Organisers were a little concerned about hundreds of pineapples turning up on site so decided to ask fans not to bring them along.”

But he added that, “the tongue may be slightly in cheek on this one.”

Now that the festivals have actively drawn attention to the matter, there’s no doubt that more people will attempt to bring the fruit in, whether they’re fans of Glass Animals or not – something of a Streisand effect.

Reading and Leeds will take place August 25-27.
