In early 2016, Avicii stunned fans around the world when he announced he would retire from touring. He did not entirely retire from music, though, and has been busy producing new songs and remixes. Yesterday he released the Avīci EP, featuring collaborations with Rita Ora and AlunaGeorge among others. The EP is his first release in two years, but it happens to be his first of four big releases: three EPs and a new album.
Avicii revealed his music release plan to Pete Tong during an interview on BBC Radio 1, announcing the Avīci EP would be the first of three EPs and that the third EP would release with his next album. Before dishing those details, Avicii told Tong he spent three months in Africa after he retired, all while brainstorming and developing new music. When Tong asked him if he missed touring, Avicii said while he missed the speed and energy of touring, he has been the happiest he has ever been during his retirement. Tong happily told Avicii he sounded chirpy during the interview, which can be expected from an artist planning to roll out two more EPs and his third studio album soon.
