Denver apparently never got the memo about the oversaturation of music festivals, because they’ve just signed a 5-year contract with Superfly Productions for a new 3-day music festival.
The city council voted 10-3 to approve the festival on Overland Park Golf Course, with each event slated for the second or third weekend in September, starting next year. According to the promoters, the event is expected to draw 30,000 to 40,000 people a day to the site in the first year. As the festival grows in the years following, attendance will eventually cap at 80,000.
There’s currently no name for the festival, but Superfly promises an expansive range of acts, from locals to the big names, as well as heavy involvement from local food and drink purveyors. 
City Council member Jolon Clark thinks that the festival will be good for his district, which contains the golf park. The contract signed by the city has provisions for the neighborhood, including safety and revenue. However, Councilman Kevin Flynn has misgivings about the location of festival. “Just in my gut, it seems like the wrong location to me,” he said.
Ultimately, the festival is expected to bring in $2 million in profit once the festival grows to a size of about 70,000. Superfly will pay a lease of $200,000 per year for the five weeks following Labor Day, allowing for set-up and tear-down of the festival. The city will also garnish a 10 percent seat tax on ticket buyers, and other considerations, including $2 per ticket for a golf fund and $1 per ticket for a community fund — expected to net “five to six figures” each year, promoters say. Superfly will also be responsible for restoring the turf and all other aspects of the golf course.
The festival is expected to open its doors September 2018.
