Per TMZ sources: Kanye West has left Jay-Z’s exclusive streaming service TIDAL amidst financial disputes related to payouts from The Life of Pablo – Kanye’s last studio album. The album was released exclusively on TIDAL for seven weeks before being made available on other streaming platforms include in Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play. All in all, it’s estimated that this seven-week window of exclusivity more than doubled TIDAL’s subscriber base from 1 to 2.5 million.
Sources are reporting that West, a ‘co-owner of the company,’ was due a $3 million+ bonus for the huge increase in subscriber revenue he brought in, and his lawyers have accused the company of breaching their contract with West by not paying him. They have subsequently terminated the contract. West’s lawyers are also arguing that TIDAL has never reimbursed West for several music videos.
As it stands, TIDAL has retorted by saying that West never delivered the music videos in time and that, as far as they were concerned, West was still an exclusive streaming contract with TIDAL and liable to be sued if he switched over.
