Ellie Goulding Calls Out Music Festivals For Lack of Female Presence On Lineups (Again)

Ellie Goulding, one of the biggest names associated with both dance and pop music, just called out music festivals out for lack of female presence on lineups.

While the widely popular songstress has a summer’s worth of festival stops herself, at Untold Festival, V Festival, Summerdays Festival, and beyond — other women in the industry aren’t as fortunate to have headlining spots, or even show up on lineups at all.

Goulding mentioned on Twitter that she gives herself “credit” where it’s due, and is “so proud” to represent females at music festivals around the world:

This isn’t the first time she’s spoken out about women in music… In a 2015 interview with Cosmopolitan, she said, “I got annoyed when Glastonbury had so many men on the line-up.”

But, Glastonbury is just one example — Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, you name it — females are more uncommonly represented than men. Huffington Post’s article “Music Festivals’ Glaring Women Problem” breaks it down by numbers, sharing a startling statistic that only 12 percent of acts at music festivals are female.
