DJ Khaled should have been trending on Facebook yesterday for all of the statuses surrounding his EDC 2017 performance. The rapper/producer/”DJ” was scheduled to perform at the festival on the final day, between Gramatik and Yellow Claw, but was delayed for nearly an hour due to technical difficulties.
No explanation has yet been given from EDC or Insomniac at time of publishing for why the sound failed only during Khaled’s set, but was apparently without issue during each performer before and after. Because of the odd nature of the circumstances, Khaled accused EDC of sabotage (we wouldn’t go quite that far, though it is a shame he didn’t drop some Beastie Boys in the moment).

An Insomniac employee can be heard saying, “We don’t want to, we got to,” and then motioning to sound techs to cut his sound when he insists on continuing to perform. Based on reports from the festival, DJ Khaled performed for anywhere between 15-25 minutes.
And contrary to many videos going viral, showing select groups of people yelling “YELLOW CLAW” and booing Khaled (most of these videos have been removed by Khaled’s team), the crowd at his set is undeniably large. Considering he was playing at the same time as Marshmello, Flux Pavilion, Aly & Fila and Axwell Λ Ingrosso, the size of the crowd could not be coincidental. People were there to see DJ Khaled.
And no, his career is not ruined.
DJ Khaled’s album Grateful drops this Friday with features from Justin Bieber, Drake, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Chance the Rapper, 21 Savage, Young Thug, Migos, Raekwon and more.
