The Chainsmokers recently sat down to talk with Howard Stern, which blossomed into conversation about the Grammy awards, Lady Gaga, and most notably their experience collaborating with with Chris Martin on their track “Something Just Like This.”
In the clip below, Alex Pall explains how it all went down… The electronic duo played piano chords of “Something Just Like This” that really resonated with the Coldplay frontman, then he took a mic, plugged it in to the PA system, and listened back on a loop for about 2 and 1/2 hours, all the while dancing around and working up lyrics to the soon-to-be hit song.
“He basically mumbled this entire song,” he said.
That looping and mumbling paid off, because “Something Just Like This” proved to be one of the most successful tracks from The Chainsmoker’s debut album Memories… Do Not Open and went certified platinum!
But she said, where’d you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I’m not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts
Some superhero
Some fairytale bliss
Just something I can turn to
Somebody I can kiss
I want something just like this
