BREAKING: Oakland Warehouse Owner Arrested On 36 Counts Of Manslaughter

No one can forget the tragedy that happened last December in Oakland when a venue caught fire and claimed the lives of 36 people. The venue, called Ghost Ship, was effectively in disrepair and also served as a home to a number of people. On the night of December 2, the warehouse caught fire; it was later uncovered that the cause of the blaze was faulty wiring and a building that wasn’t up to code.

Today, the master tenant, Derick Almena, and creative director, Max Harris were arrested on suspicion of 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, according to SF Chronicle reporter Evan Sernoffsky.

Inspector Christina Harbison described Harris and Almena’s actions are “reckless,” and “creating a high risk of death.” Harbison claims that the warehouse had been modified in such a way that it violated a variety of safety codes, including those put in place by Oakland and California.
