After Lightning in a Bottle Attendee Death, Her Aunt Speaks Out Against Festival

Lightning in a Bottle suffered a tragedy as a 20-year-old woman died after attending the music festival.

According to the report, Ventura College student Baylee Gatlin was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton at 2:12 a.m. Sunday, May 28, and pronounced dead at 3:42 a.m.; the cause is yet to be determined, pending an autopsy report.

Despite Lightning in a Bottle providing medical access 24 hours a day, over the three-day event, Gatlin’s aunt is speaking out against the festival.

Her death “could have been prevented,” she said. “They could have had medical services for her, and they didn’t. And they could have had sensible people working in what was supposed to be the triage or medical and apparently they didn’t.”

LiB’s website states: “The LIB Ranger Team and Medical teams will be on patrol and stationed 24 hours a day throughout the festival in the event you need their assistance. If you ever need assistance you can contact any LIB staff member, go to the medical stations, info stations or any campground management booth.”

Anyone with information about Gatlin’s death should contact Detective Rory Linn at 805-781-4514.

Our thoughts are with Gatlin’s family, friends, and loved ones.
