An Innovator In Trap & Beyond: 5 Years Of UZ

With this year marking five years working under the alias of UZ for one of our favourite bass producers, it’s only right that we helped celebrate the occasion. From his ground-breaking work shown through originals, remixes and collaborations to establishing a solid creative platform in the form of his Quality Goods Records, it is clear that UZ has stayed at the top of his game because he isn’t afraid to take on bold challenges and musical directions.

We have painstakingly gone through UZ’s back catalogue and selected our all-time top 5 pieces of UZ material. Enjoy!

1) Gia – ‘Only A Girl’ (UZ Remix)

This was a real breakthrough track for the multi-talented Gia, and after handing it over to UZ to work his magic on it, it was taken to dizzying new heights. Racking up the bubbling tension from the start, this understated but killer edit is packed with scattering synths and crisp, trembling hats. We’re stoked to see that UZ has worked with Gia again on new single ‘Million Dollar Bills.’

2) Elliphant – ‘Revolusion’ (ƱZ Remix)

Another essential remix that we had to add to this list… wow. UZ really beasted this remix, and it still sounds so good. With the raw tones of Elliphant against that surging bassline, tempo switch ups and high octane snare work, it’s no wonder this one has racked up well over a million plays and counting.

3) UZ – ‘Trap Shit V17’

There have been so many absolutely slamming editions in UZ’s seminal ‘Trap Shit’ series, but this one really caught our ears and stuck with us. Those hypnotic, minimal riffs of melody and that cavernous bass reverb has us coming back for more… each and every time.

4) UZ – ‘Bubbles’

The guttural intro to this tune couldn’t prepare you for that mesmerising, totally unique drop that comes next.  This is UZ stretching the boundaries and moving seamlessly through genres – not many artists can own their productions in such imitable style. ‘Bubbles’ is wavy, disjointed and delicious.

5) UZ – ‘Magellan’

We’re rounding off our list with something a little more recent from UZ, and it comes from his outstanding EP of the same name. With nods to grime, hip hop and rap in there, ‘Magellan’ grabs you immediately with its brooding intensity, eye-opening samples and rich texture.

The future for UZ is looking mind-blowing – here’s to the next five years.
