India’s party hotspot Goa is cracking down on nightlife, as the local government attempts to clean up its notorious image as a rave destination.
The legendary all-night dance parties are banned, according to Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, as all loud music must be turned off at 10 pm. That’s an early night for party goers and tourists trying to let loose, and bad news for bars and clubs that stretch across the state’s beaches.
This news comes after a handful of suspicious deaths near popular party spots, one just last month. Parrikar also instructed police to crackdown on drugs, prostitution and illegal gambling in the state.
“These parties are against our culture. We need to stop them immediately,” Goa’s water resources minister Vinod Palyekar said.
