I’ve been a fan of SAINT WKND for quite some time now so it’s great to see a full body of original work from the producer who might not by the most prolific. Released via Sony Music UK, “Golden Youth” sees the young producer step up outside of his usual deep house comfort zone with some indie dance and pop-influenced tracks while still retaining his brand of bouncy, feel-good house music.
The EP kicks off with a cinematic intro before progressing into the EP’s lead single “Golden” with vocalist Hoodlem which is perhaps the most mature single of the EP. Drawing heavily from indie pop influences and straying into the indie dance world this stripped down single makes one-half of the EP’s title. The other of course is “Youth” which is perhaps the bounciest most club-friendly single which will have anybody from the Ibiza crowd to those at a Miami beach party busting out their best moves. Finally, we have “Make You Mine” sandwiched perfectly between the other two tracks. Production wise, “Make You Mine’s” ‘still-stripped-down-yet-house’ flavour makes it perfectly suited to balance out its edgier predecessor and bouncier successor.
