I’m a total sucker for productions that you might call “super synthy.” It’s that over-abundance of deep and layered, rich-textured synths you might find in some M83, Porter Robinson or Madeon songs. And there are certainly a lot of producers who try to find that right balance, but very rarely do you get it right.
New duo Essex has hit that sweet spot with their debut track “Roads” and we’ve had this one on repeat since it dropped last Friday. The crooning vocals and synth-pop percussion immediately draw you in, and the lyrics and sweet sounds of the song keep you paying attention.
Though at times it does sound a little too close to Porter, Essex is always able to bring it back to their signature melodic sound in the drop. Listen to “Roads” below:
