Two people were hospitalized early Sunday morning after being shot at an after-hours nightclub in downtown Toronto, local authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to the club around 4:30 a.m. for a reported shooting. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered a man, 24, with a gunshot wound to the head inside the building. Investigators said they later discovered a woman, 30, who had also been shot. The woman transported herself to the hospital.

The condition of both the man and woman is life-threatening, according to CP24. Both victims underwent surgery Sunday morning.

Sgt. Jeff Zammit told reporters that his hopes are with the victims as they struggle to pull through.

“I’ve actually been here quite a few times for complaints. It is an after-hours club that people go to after the Entertainment District is closed for the night. We’ve been trying our best to try and close it. We are working with the building owners…Because it is a Sunday morning, everything is quiet, everything is shut down. We are going to have officers here all day, all evening until we hit every place that has a camera when they are open. If not, we will come back tomorrow morning on the Monday when everything is open.”

Investigators are currently canvassing the area for witnesses, camera footage and other evidence that might point to the attacker’s identity. So far, police say they do not have information on any possible suspects.
