Deadmau5 & Marshmello Create “Masked DJs Anonymous” Support Group

We hope you enjoyed our April Fool’s this year!

After a year or more of strife and clashing, Deadmau5 and Marshmello have come to terms with the fact that as masked DJs, they’re just not appreciated enough. It was because of this underlying loss of self, stemming from wearing a mask on stage, that they developed such a contentious relationship. As a result, the two have thrown away their respective grudges and founded a “Masked DJs Anonymous” support group.

In a press release sent out this morning, deadmau5 stated, “I finally had to ask myself why I was so angry all the time. Sure, the mask gets pretty hot – but it was something deeper than that. I was losing that face to face connection with fans on stage. Truth is, a lot of the time, I was crying under that mask.”

Marshmello had a similar revelation after a show one night when getting back to his hotel. “I got back to my room after playing for 20,000 people. I was high on pure adrenaline and wanted to keep going, but I had a flight to Argentina in the morning to visit the marshmallow fields and protest unfair labor. Anyway, I took off the mask and went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror and… I didn’t recognize who was staring back at me. I wasn’t myself anymore, I was just Marshmello. And I didn’t know how to feel about it. I still don’t.

“That’s why I’m so glad Joel reached out to me about MDA – Masked DJs Anonymous. It’s the perfect way for us to be real with each other without losing our branding.”

Other DJs who have voiced their support for the group include Cazzette, DJs From Mars, Bear Grillz, and DJ Bl3nd. Zhu has been invited to the group as a technicality, as he doesn’t wear a mask on stage, but he still prefers to not be seen.
