The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s massive 2016 hit “Closer” has just reached the 27-week mark for time spent at the No. 1 position on Billboard‘s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, breaking the record for most weeks at the top. This time, the pair has finally beaten out Avicii’s own record for “Wake Me Up,” which lasted for 26 weeks at No. 1 in 2013 and 2014.
According to Billboard, the song has gained top Digital Gainer honors this week, selling 34,000 downloads. “Closer” has now spent the most weeks of any track all-time in the top five positions of the Hot 100’s top five.
Mike Popadines, associate manager/programming for Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel, put it best when he told Billboard:
“‘Closer’ is a major smash across multiple Music Choice channels. With this single, these two guys established themselves as heavyweight champs in the pop and dance worlds.”
