As the year comes to a rapid close, the Best of 2016 lists are spreading like wildfire. In addition to our own favorite albums, Nielsen Music has just unveiled the roster of the year’s best-selling songs. Drawing in popular tracks from every genre, the list contains a healthy amount of EDM beside the pop, hip hop and alternative hits.
At the No. 12 spot is Mike Posner‘s immense single, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza.” The track sold 1,525,000 copies during the 2016 calendar year, as well as an additional 29,000 in 2015. The track was also nominated for a Grammy in the Song of the Year category. Its success was no doubt owed largely to the massive success of producers Seeb’s remix, which gained a staggering 717 million plays on its Youtube upload over the original’s 22 million.
The Chainsmokers took the No. 8 spot with their Daya collaboration “Don’t Let Me Down,” selling 1,763,000 copies since its February release. The duo also managed to secure the No. 3 position with “Closer” featuring Halsey. The track beat out Drake’s “One Dance” and even Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” selling 2,124,000 copies during 2016.
