In case you didn’t already know, Pleasure has been absolutely crushing it this year. With releases from multiple forward-thinking labels and support from Noisia, Ivy Lab, and many others, the Chicago native is inarguably making his mark on the scene.
As if to drive that fact home, he dropped a brand new EP for our listening pleasure only yesterday. Forward is an extremely appropriate title, too, as all four tracks push the boundaries of what we consider bass music. Elements of halftime, trap, dubstep, and more are blended together into a sonic stew frothing with low-end. This man is a master when it comes to raw sound design and the synthesis on this release is a testament to that fact. Some of the sounds are industrial, some swampy, and others, completely alien. Vocal samples ranging from thought-provoking and psychedelic to straight-up gangster are sprinkled throughout each tune, adding flair as necessary. To top it all off, the EP features a stellar remix from one of our favorite West Coast bass-peddlers: Chase Manhattan.
The Forward EP is available via the one and only ShadowTrix Music, so don’t hesitate to check it out. If you like what you hear, you can grab a copy of your own on the label’s Bandcamp page.
