A newcomer from Los Angeles has been popping up all over our radar lately. He goes by Sikkie, and his beats definitely make the name appropriate. One of his latest tunes is a perfect example: ‘Down’. It’s a sick one for sure, and it doesn’t slack on the low-end. West Coast bass meets trap music in a fantastic fusion of styles and there’s even a bit of psychedelic flair thrown in for good measure. Minimal, synthesized keys float and drift through a haze of 808s and understated yet well-arranged percussion. White noise variations and snappy vocal samples top things off with what we’re quickly learning is Sikkie’s signature style. In short, you definitely should have hit the play button already.
‘Down’ comes to us as part of this underground beat hustler’s debut EP, Please Don’t Make Me Famous. You can stream the track in full after the jump; if you like what you hear, check out the full release on Bandcamp, iTunes, or Spotify.
