Deadmau5, aside from starting wars on Twitter, loves to keep his fans updated on what he’s doing. Currently, it seems he’s transferring data from one source to another on his network, and in doing so he’s going through a lot of old material. (“NAS” stands for Network-attached storage.)
One of the files he dug up was “the birth of the mau5,” this 3D rendering of the original mau5head. The eyes are farther apart, the ears are noticeably smaller, and the mouth is a little larger than the current model. And of course, the first model wasn’t made out of LEDs and electronics. In fact, it kind of looks more like a teddy bear.
