Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” Dethrones The Chainsmokers’ “Closer”

It’s been a glorious 12 weeks for The Chainsmokers atop the Billboard Hot 100. Their hit “Closer” with Halsey topped the chart in late August and there it has remained ever since until the Mannequin Challenge.

The viral dance craze – is it really dancing if no one is moving? – has swept the nation as it uses Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” as the theme which has catapulted the song up on the charts. The song shot from #9 to #1 this week.

“Black Beatles” is the first #1 hit for both Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane. “Closer” was four weeks shy of tying Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s record 16-week domination in 1995-96 with “One Sweet Day.”
