DJ Mag Tries To Redeem Itself With A Top 50 Techno List & Still Fails

It’s been a little over two weeks since Martin Garrix was crowned the new #1 DJ, and it’s been about 13 days since we’ve stopped caring about it. Still, DJ Mag is intent on earning our favor and so in some sort of last ditch effort, they’ve put out a separate list of the Top 50 “Techno-Leaning” DJs from their list this year.

Once again, it should be noted that these are the DJs that people voted for, and DJ Mag has had no editorial input on this list.

That being said, it was still up to DJ Mag to decide who was actually “techno” and the list has a lot of people scratching their heads. First off, Jamie Jones, Hannah Wants, The Martinez Brothers, Skream, Jamie xx? None of them are really techno. Sasha is arguable but he really doesn’t play/produce that much techno. Seth Troxler, as well.

It’s not hard to forgive DJ Mag ultimately – the delineation between techno or tech house is borderline impossible for those who aren’t diehard fans and who don’t listen to it every day. As a bass music lover, I definitely couldn’t do it.

Still, I guess props should be given to them for trying?
