The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” Holds Longest Domination of 2016 Charts

“Closer,” The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s biggest single of the season, has officially remained at the No. 1 spot on Billboard‘s Hot 100 for 11 consecutive weeks. Having now surpassed Drake’s “One Dance” by one week, it now holds the longest domination of the charts of any song in 2016. “Closer” now holds the longest No. 1 record since July of 2015 when Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth led for 12 weeks.

The track remains as the top-selling, most-streamed and most-heard radio song in the United States, with its Youtube playcount increasing by 8% over the previous week. “Closer” also tops Billboard‘s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for its 11th week.

Trailing right behind The Chainsmokers on the list are The Weeknd and Daft Punk, whose single “Starboy” has now sat at the No. 2 position for four weeks. It also surpassed “Closer” this week on the audio subscription services-based On-Demand Songs streaming chart, coming as The Weeknd’s first single in this position since “Can’t Feel My Face” in 2015.

At the No. 4 spot, DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s “Let Me Love You” hangs steady above D.R.A.M. and Lil Yachty’s “Broccoli.” Meanwhile, Major Lazer and Justin Bieber’s “Cold Water” moved from the 7th to 8th position this week, descending from its peak place at No. 2.
