Gorillaz: the masters of hype and social media manipulation.
The fictional band, led by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, have recently returned to social media in full glory to tease new developments among their fictional characters, namely Noodle and Russel thus far. However, news of new music has been slow aside from a report that suggested the new album would be complete this week. But, Noodle’s Instagram account uploaded a pretty big revelation: a picture of the Soulection record label, which hints at a potential collaboration between Gorillaz this weekend.
Based out of Los Angeles, Soulection is a record label that has steadily risen the ranks over the past few years, and Noodle’s post suggests that Soulection Radio, the official Soulection radio show hosted on Beats 1, may be playing new Gorillaz music on Saturday, October 22.
Her post’s comment tagged Soulection’s Instagram account and British DJ Gilles Peterson, who will be hosting the upcoming edition of Soulection Radio, along with including a radio emoji. To further add to the rumor mill, Soulection is one of only 30 accounts Noodle is following on Instagram. With a history of working with rising, innovative musicians, it would come as to no surprise to see Gorillaz work with Soulection to debut new music. Tune in to Soulection Radio on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. PST to potentially hear some new Gorillaz music or at the very least some Gorillaz news.
