The societal definitions of fame and success have changed a lot since our parents were our age. Due to the rise of social media and the internet, stardom and wealth can be attained simply by uploading funny videos or finding the perfect aesthetic for an Instagram page. And as Steve Angello wrote in a passionate rant on his own page last week, “…we lift idiots and support nonsense, we don’t have the values and respect our parents and their parents had towards each-other.”
The kind of disrespect that Angello described in the post is something that he said will lead to kids growing up in darkness and disappointment. The kind of inspiration that our parents once had for living good lives and pursuing innovation, he said, is the same inspiration that our generation directs towards getting rich and becoming famous. Because quick money appears to be so easily attainable nowadays, Angello said that people have forgotten what it takes to reach true success.
“The sacrifice, the hours, the hard truth of being successful.”
He pointed to his own achievements in music and business, saying that no matter what kinds of obstacles or heartbreak he encounters on his path, he has learned to keep pushing and striving forward. A call to action is given at the end of his post, urging readers to do what’s right, for the kids.
