Over the last few years, ICON Collective has muscled itself to be America’s premiere music production school, and after graduating guys like Jauz, NGHTMRE, MAKJ, Cooda, and more, they’ve certainly earned the title.
Every year ICON selects a Student of the Year who exemplifies what the university is all. This year, that student was Alec Otto, whose project is called Limitless. His music is unique, still fitting primarily into the future bass area but with more of a singular touch.
ICON Industry Advisor Nik Cherwink says, “I’m a big believer that hard work and a positive attitude will take you far in life. Alec is living proof of this. Not only is he a badass in the studio, he’s also an amazing person. He gets it.”
Otto said of the award, “I am so honored to be chosen as student of the year. Icon is a special place to me and I spend a lot of my time there. There is a very calm and focused vibe in Icon that I cannot get enough of. I had a crazy time in Icon, having to stop 3/4 of the way through to have spine surgery after I started losing my ability to walk during level 3. But after a semester of sneaking into Icon to work on music and steal coffee in the lobby, I started my last semester and was able to finish. I think that actually ended up bringing me closer with everyone at Icon too because of how supportive the environment there is.”
