It’s clear that 2016 has been a bizarre year. From the U.S. presidential race antics to the recent epidemic of exploding Samsung phones, the year continues to throw weird curveballs at us with one of the most odd interviews yet.
Animated drummer and fictional musician Russell Hobbs of the Gorillaz “sat down” with feline publication Puss Puss Magazine (not joking) for a conversation about influences, the new Gorillaz album, and more. As silly as it seems, the magazine and Russel traded questions for answers where fans could get a deeper look at one of the band’s most overlooked characters. In this interview, Russell shared his thoughts on fashionable shoes, the future of himself, his relationship to his fellow Gorillaz, and his favorite type of cat (of course).
Russell also shared a playlist of music with music from Baauer, BOSCO, Moses Sumney, and many more.
This interview comes shortly after Gorillaz released the Book of Russell and the Book of Noodle which are leading up to the reveal of the upcoming fifth album from the band. Since the band stepped out of the spotlight after dropping their last album The Fall, the virtual band has been aiming to make their comeback as big and explosive as physically possible. With rumors of collaborators pouring in left and right for the new album, the hype train is firing on all piston for Gorillaz fans everywhere.
