Back in June, we learned that Skrillex was in the studio with pop vocalist Bruno Mars creating what he described as “so f–king different, awesome and next level and sounds like nothing else that’s happened before.”
After the music world occupied themselves for several months with other Skrillex endeavors, the excitement surrounding his upcoming work with Mars was reignited via a tweet sent out by singer on Thursday. In it, he said that his third studio album was finally completed, meaning that they track(s) the two had worked on together will be hitting us sooner rather than later.
“I’m joining him for his album. Who knows if I’ll do something that’s more of a Skrillex thing with him, but he has a vision for his album, and I’m helping him produce it on some of the songs, It’s incredible. He’s my favorite songwriter to work with, and he’s the most fun guy to be in the studio with.”
Until it finally emerges, however, fans can get a feel for the stylistic direction it may take by checking out Mars’ first single off of the same album. “24K Magic” was released alongside an accompanying music video on Thursday, coming as a funk-fueled heater that’s sure to represent one of the energetic high points of the full album.
