New DMC World Champion Crowned, Only Third-Ever Winner From Japan

DMC World Champion 2016 - DJ YUTO of Japan BBZ/REX/SHUTTERSTOCK

Most of our readers will probably be familiar with the DMC World Championships because A-Trak won the competition at the age of 15, making him the youngest and first Canadian winner of the competition.

However, the competition has a long history of its own that’s not to be pushed aside. Last weekend, the competition crowned a new champion, the third-ever Japanese winner, DJ Yuto.

In the most competitive year to-date, Yuto fought off competition from DJ Brace of Canada and DJ Traps from the USA – who came second and third respectively – whilst DJ Fummy from Japan and Brazil’s DJ Erick Jay went head-to-head elsewhere in the battle for World Supremacy, which Erick Jay came out the worthy winner.

The deserving Yuto came away with a barrage of prizes including a DMC gold disc, custom gold Rane mixer, the iconic DMC World Champion bomber jacket, plus prizes from Peavey, Panasonic and Numark.

Though a video of the championship-winning performance isn’t yet available, you can see one of his many scratch routines below.
