Gorillaz Hyping Up Potential Announcement With New Instagram Account and Social Media Activity

We’ve covered the various Gorillaz album rumblings quite a bit up to this point, from the confirmed collaborations to the purported release date to leader Damon Albarn‘s endless teasing, but it all suggests that a fifth album from the Albarn and Jamie Hewlett-led orchestrated virtual group is coming soon. The rumor mill went a bit quiet as of late, but an onslaught of social media activity and a new Instagram account under the Gorillaz name suggests a potential big announcement is coming.

The social media campaign began early Tuesday morning when the active Gorillaz accounts on Facebook and Twitter began updating their profile photos and announced that the band was now on Instagram. The Twitter and Instagram accounts then posted a visual history of the band’s early years, outlining their debut EP Tomorrow Comes Today and debut self-titled album Gorillaz and highlighting select singles, remixes and achievements from the band’s early career. The series of posts ended with a cryptic tweet with text that read “The End” and “Until next time.”

We can only hope that the social media campaign continues by going over their next releases such as albums Demon Days and Plastic Beach, building up to an eventual announcement that mirrors similar campaigns. If the aim was to get people talking ahead of a potential song reveal or album announcement, then mission accomplished. Keep tuned to Your EDM for more Gorillaz news coming up.
