Portion of David Bowie’s Ashes Scattered At Burning Man

According to reports from the NZ Herald and other outlets, a portion of David Bowie‘s ashes were scattered at Burning Man this month. Following his tragic passing in January of this year, Bowie’s godchild reportedly brought the ashes to the festival due to the several lengthy conversations they shared about the message behind the event, he said.

“David’s godchild and David had long talks about Burning Man and what it stands for, and David loved the message behind it.”

A gathering of about 70 people paid tribute to Bowie’s death at the Temple, a site dedicated to remembering lost loved ones. Bowie’s wife, Iman, gave his godchild permission to spread the ashes beneath the Temple, which was later burned down in custom.

“We played [David’s] music the entire drive from our camp to the Temple and back. Most of us had the Bowie [lightning bolt] face paint on.”

In the spirit of Burning Man and the musical connection that Bowie shared with his loved ones and listeners, his involvement in this year’s festival seems to be an appropriate way to honor his memory.
