As quick as the rumors were built up, they were brought down by the man himself. A little less than two weeks ago, we wrote that Amsterdam Music Festival had “all but confirmed” Martin Garrix as the new #1 DJ in the world when they released their lineup for this year’s festival. Clearly, we weren’t the only ones confused by the wording in their flyer which read, “special guest appearance by the new #1 DJ in the world,” as publication after publication flocked to report this breaking news.
Unfortunately, Martin himself finally broke his silence on the matter last night, sending out a tweet that basically cut off all hopes of him taking his rightful place on the polls.
I'm not the new #1 as far as I know and I'm not performing at AMF

It’s odd that Martin would be so adamant that he wasn’t the new #1 without having access to DJ Mag’s own voting results – which hasn’t even concluded yet – though he hasn’t exactly been campaigning for the DJ Mag Top 100, either.
His absence at AMF is also unfortunate, purely for the reason that he’s an absolute joy to see perform. But, oh well.
Voting for the DJ Mag Top 100 closes on September 14.
