Your EDM Month In Music – August, 2016

As August (and summer) winds down to an end, let’s take a look back and what was most definitely one of the best months of music we’ve had to date. From new singles by A-list superstars to debut singles by rising superstars to retiring greats and everything in between, August had it all.

Technically, “Closer” came out on July 31st, but with the way it’s completely dominated both the radio and streaming world we couldn’t help but give a shout-out to The Chainsmokers and keep it in the playlist. Empire of The Sun also surprised with some of their first new material in years with euphoric single “High And Low.” Tiësto also hit the studio with protege Mike Williams to make “I Want You” complete with eye-rollingly cheesy video to match. DJ Snake’s summer single “Let Me Love You” as well as brand new collabs from Hardwell, Cashmere Cat, Porter Robinson, and more – not all with each other mind you – paint a diverse picture of what the stars put out this month.

While the superstars were busy doing their thing, some of EDM’s rising superstars were busy making moves as well. Our playlist is kicked off by Slushii who dropped “So Long” with vocalist Madi. Young Whethan debuted his first original single with Ashe, “Can’t Hide,” which has now amassed over a million streams – not bad for an independent release! Two rising producers were also given some love by ODESZA and Avicii’s labels respectively; Chet Porter released “Stay” with Chelsea Cutler on Foreign Family while k?d dropped “Discover” with RCKB on PRMD.

I could probably go on for ages but I’ll shut up for now and let you guys stream the entire playlist below. Lastly, we’d like to pay our respects to BIG MAKK who tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this week by including his single “BANDZ,” as well as Avicii who closed out his career in style with a huge performance at Ibiza last weekend.

Stream all that and much, much more below.
