Snapchat has just taken the next step toward expanding their massive social media empire even further by purchasing search and discovery app Vurb for $110 million, according to a report from The Information.
The app distributes suggestions for users based on their search history, personal preferences and what’s currently trending in the community. By incorporating information from platforms like Uber, Yelp and Fandango, it can even offer recommendations on new movies, restaurants or places to visit. The app even considers the time of day, current location and weather when coming up with ideas.
Vurb was one of the recent winners of TechCrunch’s Disrupt NY, thus lending itself the hefty price tag. With the acquisition and incorporation of the brand new search feature, Snapchat might see itself breaking into a completely new tech market.
