Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, & More Secure MTV VMA Nominations

MTV VMA MTV VMA

The nominees for 33rd annual MTV Video Music Awards has just come in and though global pop superstars Adele, Beyoncé, Drake, and Rihanna pave the way with nominations. the EDM community also sees some representation thanks to The Chainsmokers, Alesso, Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Skrillex, and more.

The prestigious Video of the Year award sees Justin Bieber, and by extension Skrillex, in contention with Drake, Kanye, and more following a nomination for Justin’s hit single “Sorry” which also secured a place on the Best Pop Video shortlist. Calvin Harris secures a nomination (somewhat confusingly) for Best Male Video with his Rihanna collaboration “This Is What You Came For” in addition to the best collaboration (which makes a whole lot more sense to me).

Skipping ahead to Best Electronic Video sees hits “How Deep Is Your Love”, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza”, “Don’t Let Me Down”, and Afrojack’s “SummerThing!” all nominated. Somewhat surprisingly, “The Girl Is Mine” by 99 Souls ft. Destiny’s Child & Brandy also secured a spot on that shortlist as well.

Lastly, for the EDM world at least, Alesso receives a nomination for “Best Cinematography” with “I Wanna Know.”
